What is Mary Beth's background in dance?
Dance instructor Mary Beth Hurst is a seasoned ballroom social dancer for over 35 years and is a
2022 Line Dance Worlds Champion Female Crystal Novice. 2024 World Champion Leader Mixed Role.
Hurst was also on the podium @2024 World Championship as an Advanced Line Dance competitor & Line Dance Choreographer! June 2024 her line choreography premiered at #34 internationally. Check out videos on her YouTube channel of line dance "Keepin it Country" music by James Johnston.
March 2024 Hurst won the dance showdown @Ft Wayne Dance for All with 1,000 attendees.
MB holds a BFA in DANCE from OSU and received a full ride scholarship her Senior year for her merits as a choreographer. She has had dance instructor training from Fred Astaire, Author Murray and Emerald Ballroom dance studios. She is certified by the state of Ohio to teach dance in fine arts schools grade K-12 and as an Elementary classrooms teacher grades 1-8. She was one of the dance curriculum writers for the Columbus Public Schools.
After college Mary Beth taught Country Two Step, Swing and Line Dancing back in it's hay day at IN Cahoots at the Contingent in Columbus Ohio. She also taught primer ballet tap and gymnastics at Miss Peggy's school of Dance in Hilliard. And was an athletic club manager and aerobics instructor. Mary Beth performed as professional contemporary dancer in a concert with the Susan Van Pelt dance Ensemble. Mary Beth has choreograph a number of school musicals. And an electronic opera for shadow box "Dawn of Infinite Dreams". In 2019 she produced Swan Lake for students at a performing arts middle school. She has conducted several school dance companies in the past.
While raising her children Mary Beth was of course an ardent stage mom. Sewing flags for the school color guard, performing actor for vacation bible school, teaching Sunday school and coaching optimist cheerleaders.
Currently she is training post professional ballet and contemporary dance at Hixon dance academy in Clintonville. In her 1st sanctioned Westcoast Swing Jack & Jill Westcoast Swing competition in 2019 at CASH Bash she placed 2nd! She was a two time Westcoast Swing competition Finalist as both a leader and as a follower at "Floorplay" event in Orlando Dec. 2021. She is doing well as a competitive dancer pro-am with the reigning masters crown champion, Ronnie Mullins. Her dance routines include Waltz, Night Club, Triple two step, Westcoast swing, Country two step, Cha Cha, Polka and East coast swing. At her 1st UCWDC WORLDS Dance championship competition in 2019 she took 2nd place @ World Championships in Nashville TN in East coast swing! June 2022 was all around Champion of 8 dance styles @ Indy Dance Explosion Silver division.
